With such a wide variety of lash extensions out there, you'll often see plenty of variation between sets. Every pair of eyes are unique, so extensions can look different on each individual. However, all lash sets are categorized into 4 main 'types', which indicate the technique and specific lashes used to create the look. Below are the types of lashes offered at La Strada and a description of what they are.
The most natural and subtle type of lash extension. One singular extension is applied to each natural lash. This look will not add substantial thickness, only length. Classics are also known to require more frequent fills because lash loss becomes noticeable quicker than other lash types. Full sets require 1.5- 2 hours and fills take 1- 1.5 hours depending on amount of natural lashes a client has.
A mixture of classic lashes and volume fans are applied to each individual lash. Hybrid lashes create a variety of looks because they can be made to appear more natural-looking or more dramatic, depending on types of lashes used. Full set application requires 2-2.5 hours and fills for hybrid lashes take 1-1.5 hours depending on amount of natural lashes a client has.
Volume lashes are created by applying 3-6D handmade fans to each individual natural lash. Density will vary depending on the amount of natural lashes a person has. Full set application requires 2-3 hours and fills for volume lashes take 1-1.5 hours depending on amount of natural lashes a client has.
The most dense and dramatic of all the lash types. Mega volume lashes are created using handmade 8-12D fans for a full and fluffy look. Full set application requires 2-3 hours and fills take 1-1.5 hours depending on amount of natural lashes a client has.
Lash lifts are done by using a perm solution to create a look that lasts 5-7 weeks. Unlike extensions, we are not adding anything to the natural lashes, so lifts are great for clients who are sensitive to extension adhesive.
Lash lifts/tints require little to no aftercare. You can even wear mascara over a lift/tint. After the first 48 hours, there are no aftercare requirements to maintain the service until it needs to be redone approximately 6 weeks later.
A lash lift/tint takes 45 minutes- one hour to complete. As opposed to the 2-2.5 hours for extensions, this service is a breeze! Lifts can not be preformed more than once every 6 weeks, which makes upkeep very easy.

Lash extensions are a luxury service that eliminate the need for mascara, eyelash curlers, or uncomfortable strip-lashes. Services require 1.5-3 hours because each individual eyelash is primed, isolated, and has a handmade silk extension applied with adequate glue drying time.
If you are getting extensions for a big day, I recommend scheduling your full set at least a couple of weeks in advance and then a fill 2-4 days before the actual day. This way, you know what to expect and are able to make any tweaks. After lash application, it's important to go 24 hours without exposure to humidity or moisture, so coming at least two days before you need them allows the glue time to cure before you shower and wash them on the day of.
Absolutely not! The process of lashing is intricate and precise; but it is also relaxing and completely painless! If anything is causing discomfort during your service, let your technician know immediately.
Eyelashes grow, fall out and replace themselves in a natural cycle. It is normal to lose up to 5 eyelashes each day, per eye. If extensions are applied properly in a healthy way, they should shed naturally without any discomfort. Factors like hormones, weather, allergies and aftercare will affect lash shedding and therefore how often fills are required.
The honest answer, no. As convenient and beautiful as extensions are, they are not for everybody. Some things to consider: *Extensions require consistent maintenance. Daily cleansing, avoiding certain products/habits (like liquid eyeliner or face sleeping) and frequent fills are all necessary in up-keeping beautiful, healthy lashes. *Appointments require between 1-3 hours to complete. During this time you are laying on your back with your eyes closed. If you are not able to lay flat for this duration, lash extensions may not be for you.
This content about risks may seem scary and off-putting, but what is even more alarming is having a reaction and feeling helpless and confused. This section is not intended to scare, but to educate. If clients are knowledgable about risks and the solutions, panic is eliminated and we are able to give informed consent to the procedure about to take place. It is important to remember that these are only risks, these scenarios are very rare and cause no long term harm if handled properly.
Like any procedure, there are risks to getting extensions. La Strada values high quality products that are safe and reputable, but even so, working around such a sensitive part of the body as eyes, risk always exists. There are two main risks when getting eyelash extensions, they are chemical burns and allergic reactions. The most common culprit of allergic reactions and chemical burns is the glue. More specifically, cyanoacrylate, the active ingredient in all lash glues (even the sensitive ones). How do you tell the difference between the two? Chemical Burns are inside the eye - you’ll notice redness of the eyeball as they will be bloodshot, whilst Allergic Reactions are on the outside of the eye - they will cause the eyelids to swell up and become uncomfortable. Though they can often be confused for each other, they are treated differently. Chemical burns are usually mild and transient. They should NOT get worse after the inital reaction. The symptoms should clear up on their own in 24-48 hours. You can avoid chemical burns by not consuming caffeine before your appointment and limiting talking during it to reduce fluttering eyelids. It is also very important to communicate with your lash technician if the under-eye pads feel uncomfortable or you experience any burning or discomfort throughout your appointment, it is usually a quick and easy fix. Allergic reactions on the other hand are to be dealt with more seriously.
Allergic reactions are rare, but it is important that lash wearers are aware of the symptoms and treatments so that reactions can be treated immediately, panic-free. Symptoms of an allergic reaction are: pain, excessive itchiness, swelling of the lid, and/or discharge from the eyes. If you experience any of these symptoms following your appointment, reach out immediately. There is no reason to panic, as the solution for allergic reactions is very simple. You will be booked in as soon as possible for a removal, once the eyelashes are taken off, symptoms will subside within a few hours. A cold compress and taking an antihistamine such as Benadryl will also aid in relieving discomfort while the eyes return to normal. Allergic reactions will only occur within the first 24-48 hours after application and do not go away on their own, so it is vital you reach out immediately after experiencing adverse symptoms. If you've had extensions before with no reaction, it is most likely you will never experience one. However, it is important to know that allergic reactions have the capability of developing, so it is possible to have one at any time, no matter how long you've worn extensions.
Chemical burns (as terrifying as they sound) are somewhat common and like discussed, will dissipate on their own. But moving forward after a client experiences a chemical burn, I will often weigh down the eyelids with sanitized coins or medical tape to ensure the eyelids are completely closed. I will also advise the client to be a still as they can, relaxed eyes are the easiest to work with. Often this means avoiding conversation, as when the mouth moves the whole face tends to follow. (Not that I don't love catching up with you all! But your lashes and health take priority!) And as always, communication is key, please never hesitate to let me know if anything is ever uncomfortable.
Allergic reactions on the other hand are not to be taken as lightly, as symptoms do not just go away on their own and once a reaction happens, it is almost guaranteed to happen again in the future. I am very hesitant when taking on clients that have previously reacted, as all lash glues have the same ingredients, so even 'sensitive' glues run the risk of provoking a reaction.
I do carry a fabulous, high-quality glue that has no pigment, no scent and is formulated for sensitive clients. I often default to this glue for first time lash wearers, or anyone that has sensitive eyes or skin. This is a great solution for someone who has experienced a mild reaction or are hypersensitive, but depending on the severity of your reaction, I often will recommend other alternatives once adverse symptoms occur. If you put on a shirt and became covered in hives, you would take the shirt off. The same idea applies with lash extensions, the most effective course of action when a reaction occurs is to remove the irritant and seek alternatives to extensions. Even though allergic reactions have simple solutions, as a professional, I will never put you at unnecessary risk and will always prioritize your health and safety.
