Aftercare kits are available to purchase at your appointment and La Strada retails many lash-friendly products.
'Retention' refers to how well lashes stand the test of time. Good retention is 50% the tech’s responsibility, and 50% the client’s responsibility. Proper, neat application, high quality products, and adequate glue drying time are all things your lash technician will do ensure your lashes are set up to have good retention. Here are some rules to follow to get the most out of your lash extensions:
Avoid moisture and humidity for a full 24 hours after lash application! The bonds in the glue need this time to solidify. Most people choose to shower before their appointment so they can go the full 24 hours after the appointment without any exposure to moisture.
After the initial 24 hour period, it is vital to cleanse lashes daily. See the next column for a full detailed guide of how to properly clean extensions.
Do not pull, touch, or rub your extensions! Lashes are a ‘hands off’ policy. Natural oils on our skin can break down the glue bonds and cause premature loss. Pulling extensions out result in harm to the natural lash. Extensions should not be applied to weak or broken lashes, so sets will be less full and symmetrical if damage is present.
Completely steer clear of mascara and eyelash curlers. Extensions were not made to be worn with mascara. If you find yourself tempted, have a talk with your lash tech about transitioning your extensions into something longer or more full.
Sleep on a satin pillowcase. The natural properties of satin reduce friction on your face and hair while you sleep. The gentleness of the material helps keep your lashes on your eyes and not all over your pillow! You can purchase these on amazon for a reasonable price.
Maintain regular lash fills. An average lash cycle is between 60-90 days. This means lashes completely replace themselves every few months. As you lose lashes, new ones are growing in. We lose 3-5 extensions daily, therefore every 2-3 weeks our lashes will require maintenance.
Avoid getting oil-based products directly on your extensions. If you're removing eyemakeup, ensure it is oilfree. Micellar water is a great alternative to other makeup removers. Facial sprays and sunscreens should also be oilfree to keep your extensions looking their best.
Brush your lashes morning and night to keep them neat and tidy. You may brush your extensions as often as you would like, but it is recommended to comb through them twice daily.
The last aftercare tip is simple: if you don’t know, ask! If you are unsure of a product, want to work on bettering your retention, or simply have a question, reach out on any platform, anytime.
The whole purpose of eyelashes is to keep dust and debris from entering the eyes. So naturally, without proper cleansing, buildup will occur on the lash line, which can lead to an array of problems. This is why it is crucial to do a thorough cleanse at least a few times per week. Individuals that have naturally oily skin, wear makeup, or workout frequently, should wash their lashes daily. With the purchase of a new set of lash extensions, you will receive a free aftercare kit which includes: *ProLong Lash Cleanser and makeup remover*, a deep cleansing brush, and spoolies for combing through lashes.
First Step: The La Strada Lash Bath comes in a foaming bottle. Shake well before each use. Apply 1-2 pumps directly onto the cleansing brush’s bristles or onto the eyelid. Step Two: It’s recommended to do one eye at a time to avoid getting the cleanser directly in the eye. Using very gentle downward motions, swipe the brush from the eyelid through to the end of the extensions, focusing on the lash line. Last Step: Rinse lashes with water and pat with a fresh towel (do not rub). Allow your lashes to dry naturally or use a blow-dryer on cool and low. When the extensions have completely dried, brush them neatly into place, and you’re done! Viola, clean, healthy lashes!
